IIPC:n 20-vuotisjuhlaseminaari järjestetään Turun yliopistossa 16. lokakuuta 2026. Päivän aikana tarkastellaan populaarikulttuurin tutkimuksen menneisyyttä, nykyisyyttä ja tulevaisuutta sekä juhlistetaan keskuksen ympärille kahdessa vuosikymmenessä rakentunutta tutkimusyhteisöä.
Seminaarin pääpuhujana toimii brittiläinen elokuvatutkija Richard Dyer, jonka työ on vaikuttanut merkittävästi elokuva-, media- ja kulttuurintutkimukseen kansainvälisesti. Juhlapuheen pitää kulttuurihistorian professori Hannu Salmi.
Päivän ohjelma heijastaa IIPC:n monitieteistä luonnetta. Puhujina on tutkijoita eri uravaiheista opiskelijoista professoreihin, ja puheenvuorot esittelevät laajasti Turun yliopistossa tehtävää populaarikulttuurin tutkimusta. Ohjelmassa tarkastellaan muun muassa sosiaalisen median fanikulttuureja, sarjakuvia, videopelien tutkimusta, halloweenin merkitystä suomalaisessa kulttuurissa, lastenelokuvien kuolemankuvauksia, urheilun historiaa, kriisikulttuuria sosiaalisessa mediassa sekä elokuvan ja alkoholin suhdetta.
Tapahtuma järjestetään Turun yliopiston Arcanum-rakennuksen Aava-salissa (Arcanuminkuja 1) klo 10-18.
