TIAS: “Leading the Soul by Words” or “Swayed by the Speech of One”? Interdisciplinary and Diachronic Perspectives on Rhetorics
Edu2
Educarium
How do people persuade, influence, and shape public opinion? How have rhetorical strategies changed across different historical periods, cultures, and media environments? Inspired by the interdisciplinary approach of the Turku Institute for Advanced Studies (TIAS), the event brings together scholars from diverse fields to explore rhetoric as a multifaceted form of communication and symbolic action. From speech and writing to visual media and gestures, this seminar examines how persuasive practices operate and evolve within various sociocultural, linguistic, and historical contexts. Featuring eight presentations from a range of disciplinary perspectives, the event offers new insights into the significance of rhetoric in society, politics, and everyday life. You are warmly welcome!
