 u to an afternoon on sociological publishing to celebrate the centenary of
  sociology in Turku and in Finland!\n12.15–13.45 PUB4\nThe afternoon beg
 ins with a session on publishing processes and tips for early career resea
 rchers. The session is intended for PhD researchers and early career resea
 rchers with relatively limited publishing experience. The session is lead 
 by two editors of sociological journals: Prof Jerry A Jacobs and Dr Aki Ko
 ivula. The session covers topics such as  \n\nHow editors make initial sc
 reening decisions\nNavigating the peer review process effectively\nStrateg
 ic considerations at the early career stage\nHow to choose the right journ
 al for your work\n\n \n14.15–16 PUB3\nThe afternoon continues with a pa
 nel discussion on publishing trends and future projections. The panellists
  are all former editors of sociological journals and include Prof Jani Ero
 la\, Prof Jerry A Jacobs\, Dr Johanna Nurmi and Dr Irene Prix. The discuss
 ion is moderated by Prof Elina Kilpi-Jakonen. See below for short speaker 
 introductions. The discussion covers topics such as\n\nPublication metrics
  and their influence on the field\nPublication pressure and the publishing
  process\nReaching varied audiences with different kinds of publications\n
 The role of publishing in national (i.e. non-English) languages\nPublishin
 g single country studies vs. cross-national research\n\n \nThis event wil
 l provide insights for sociologists — as well as other social scientists
  — at all career stages who need to navigate an increasingly complex pub
 lishing landscape transformed by technological innovation and the imperati

 0.\n \nSpeaker introductions\nJerry A Jacobs is Professor of Sociology a
 t the University of Pennsylvania. Jacobs has served as Editor of the Amer
 ican Sociological Review\, President of the Eastern Sociological Society\,
  and Founding President of the Work and Family Researchers Network (WFRN).
  He has authored or edited multiple books and special issues of academic j
 ournals and published more than 80 journal articles.\nAki Koivula is a Sen
 ior Research Fellow at the INVEST Research Flagship Centre as well as a Do
 cent in Economic Sociology at the University of Turku and a Docent in Poli
 tical Science at Tampere University. Koivula is currently a Co-Editor-in-c
 hief at the Finnish Journal of Social Research and was an Editorial board 
 member of the journal Kriminologia from 2020 to 2023. He has published ove
 r 60 journal articles and contributed to eight refereed books. \nJani Erol
 a is Professor of Sociology and Academy Professor at the University of Tu
 rku\, as well as the founder and director of the INVEST Research Flagship 
 Centre. Erola founded the Finnish Journal of Social Research and has ser
 ved as its Editor. He was also Editor of Acta Sociologica from 2015 to 2
 018. He has published more than 70 scientific articles and authored or edi
 ted nine books.\nJohanna Nurmi is a researcher and lecturer at the Univer
 sity of Turku. Nurmi has served as Editor of the journal Sosiologia and 
 currently serves on its editorial board. In addition to publishing several
  journal articles and a book\, she has contributed to the online publicati
 ons AntroBlogi and Politiikasta.\nIrene Prix is a researcher and unive
 rsity lecturer in sociology at the University of Turku. She has served as 
 Editor of the Finnish Journal of Social Research and currently serves on
  the journal's editorial board as well as that of Sosiologia. Prix has pu
 blished several articles in journals such as the European Sociological Re
 view and Higher Education.\nModerator\nElina Kilpi-Jakonen is Professor
  of Sociology at the INVEST Research Flagship Centre\, University of Turku
 . Kilpi-Jakonen is currently an Associate Editor at European Societies. S
 he has also served as Editor of the Finnish Journal of Social Research a
 nd continues to serve on the journal's editorial board as well as formerly
  on that of Sosiologia. She was also the Book Review Editor of Acta Soci
 ologica (2015–2018). Kilpi-Jakonen has published approximately 40 journa
