Description

Are you a doctoral candidate or postdoc exploring your next steps? Wondering what life looks like after the PhD? Join us for an inspiring afternoon designed just for you!

The Finnish American Studies Association (FASA) is launching new initiatives to support early career researchers—and this is your chance to help shape them. At this kick-off event, you’ll:

Hear real stories from scholars who’ve successfully navigated post-PhD career paths
Connect with peers across Finland working on U.S.-related research
Share your ideas on what support you need for your future

What’s on the program?

  • Panel Discussion: Navigating Post-PhD Career Paths
Three experts will share their journeys beyond the dissertation:
    • Pekka Kolehmainen (John Morton Center for North American Studies, University of Turku)
    • Henna-Riikka Pennanen (University of Jyväskylä, Open Science Center)
    • Ville Sinkkonen (Finnish Institute of International Affairs)
Followed by Q&A and open discussion.

  • Networking Session:
Meet fellow researchers in small groups to discuss and share experiences about challenges, opportunities, and the future of American Studies in Finland.
We would like to hear from you about what kind of support early career researchers need and what FASA can do to better provide that.

Why join?

  • Build your academic network
  • Discover diverse career paths
  • Influence how FASA supports early career scholars

Open to all—no FASA membership required!
Let’s work together to continue building a vibrant, supportive community for American Studies in Finland.
