Welcome to the joint workshop between VADILA&MUE& ValDED!

Laser welding and Directed Energy Deposition (DED) are transforming advanced manufacturing by enabling high-precision, high-rate metal joining and additive repairs. Effective real‑time monitoring of these processes is essential to maintaining process stability, detecting defects early, and ensuring consistent part quality—reducing scrap, rework, and inspection costs. This workshop brings together researchers and industry practitioners to explore monitoring strategies for laser welding and to provide a clear, practical introduction to DED, with live demonstrations illustrating diagnostics and process control in action.

Overview Join researchers and industry practitioners for a focused half-day workshop on real‑time monitoring in laser welding and an introduction to Directed Energy Deposition (DED). The event will cover monitoring techniques, common weld defects, process stability, and live demonstrations.

Programme

09:00–09:30 Coffee, Registration
09:30–10:00 Project overview, Professor Antti Salminen
10:00–10:30 Monitoring in laser welding, Project Researcher, Saeid
10:30–11:00 Introduction to DED, Kandice
11:00–12:00 Live demonstrations

Why attend Real‑time monitoring in laser welding is critical for ensuring weld quality and process stability. It enables early detection of defects such as porosity, lack‑of‑fusion, and keyhole instability, improving reliability and reducing the need for extensive post‑weld inspection.
